KESCH created an extraordinary brand experience for Nespresso that not only underlined the brand’s sustainability strategy, but also provided an iconic staging. Within just two and a half weeks, a giant, illuminated coffee capsule made of sustainable wood was developed, produced and installed on Vienna’s Giant Ferris Wheel.

The capsule was the highlight of an exclusive customer event with influencers and the press. In addition to its impressive appearance, the project impressed with its technical perfection, sustainability and symbolic placement on one of Austria’s best-known landmarks.

Briefing

At the beginning of September 2024, KESCH was commissioned to accompany the launch of the new compostable Nespresso capsule with an eye-catching campaign. The requirements were clear:

  • Sustainability: The installation should reflect the environmentally friendly orientation of the new capsule.
  • Visual radiance: A design that attracts the public’s attention.
  • Suitable for outdoor use: The construction had to withstand wind, weather and the conditions on the Vienna Ferris wheel.
  • Interactivity: The capsule should be equipped with a QR code to provide further information.

What else?

The tight time frame of two and a half weeks posed an additional challenge.

Implementation

From idea to implementation, this project was a tour de force that required creativity, technical expertise and teamwork:

  • Design and construction:
    Together with our partner databspecializing in construction formwork, developed a 1.80-metre-high coffee capsule made from sustainable wood. The design was reworked several times to combine aesthetic and technical requirements. A color-coordinated fleece cover gave the capsule the perfect look.
  • Lighting and interactivity:
    The capsule was fitted with a customized lighting concept that set the scene at night. A QR code provided direct access to information on the new compostable capsule.
  • Placement on the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel:
    The installation on one of Austria’s most famous landmarks was a logistical masterpiece. Every detail – from permits to wind stability – was taken into account to ensure perfect staging.
  • Event highlight:
    The unveiled capsule was part of an exclusive launch event with influencers and press. Participants were able to experience the new capsule and enjoy the iconic scenery.

Result

The launch staging of the Nespresso capsule on Vienna’s Giant Ferris Wheel was a complete success:

    The illuminated capsule became a visual magnet and ensured high-reach social media content.

    The sustainability values of the new capsule were brought to life in a highly symbolic campaign.
